Pension Revision - Unwarranted criticism.

Some of our comrades have drawn our attention to a veiled criticism, that has been made about the handling of the pension revision issue, by All Unions and Associations of BSNL, in the meeting held with the Hon’ble MoS(C) on 24.02.2018. All knows that the AUAB is fighting not only for the 1.85 lakh serving employees, but also for the 2 lakh BSNL retired employees. It was only through the two day strike conducted by the unions and associations of BSNL on 21st & 22nd April, 2015, that the 60% ceiling imposed by the government, on it’s limit to pay pension to BSNL retirees, was broken.

As regards revision of pension from 01.01.2017, DoT’s stand is that, pension revision would be done, only if wage revision is completed. This was conveyed in DoT’s letter no.24-1/2018/SR dated 21.02.2018 also. (On the eve of the meeting with the Hon’ble MoS(C), this letter was withdrawn). It is nothing but total denial of pension revision. However, due to the mighty struggles of the AUAB, the Hon’ble MoS(C) has now conceded the demand for pension revision.

Perhaps, this settlement has disturbed some, whose only contribution to the pensioners is, giving ‘lip-service’ and making ‘time-pass’, by criticising others. Settlement of pension revision w.e.f. 01.01.2017 is the immediate goal of AUAB. At the same time, the AUAB will also find a permanent solution to the pension revision issue, as it has solved the 60% ceiling issue. Hence, the ‘arm-chair critics’ need not get disturbed, and can take rest.

4G speed in India is the slowest in the world.

Open Signal, a mobile analytics company, has reported that the 4G download speed in India is the slowest among the 88 countries of the world, where 4G service is being provided. The Government of India is making big noises about Digital India. However, it is a matter of shame to know that even countries like Pakistan, Algeria, Kazakhstan and Tunisia are providing faster download speed than India. The mobile customers of Singapore get the fastest download speed on 4G at 44 mbps, followed by Netherlands at 42 mbps and Norway 41 mbps. But, on an average, the 4G speed in India, has been measured as 6 mbps. It is also reported that, the actual speed can be much lower.

Indian corporates now demand the privatisation of Public Sector Banks.

The nation is still not able to understand how the Punjab National Bank is looted by the Indian corporates, to the tune of Rs.11,500 crores. The loot has been done in a very systematic manner. The looters have comfortably escaped out of India. More shockingly, Nirav Modi, the brain behind this great looting has even taken a group photo with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Davos. After having done all these, now the Indian corporates have demanded that the Public Sector banks should be privatised. Adi Godrej, of the Godrej group, has stated that private banks are better managed and big scams do not take place there. Hence, Public Sector banks should be privatised.  The tragedy is that, the government facilitates looting of Public Sector banks, by the corporates. After doing this, the same corporates demand that the Public Sector banks should be privatised, since they are inefficient. The claim of Adi Goderj is totally wrong. The world has not forgotten that the great world economic crisis that started in 2008, was created only by the bankruptcy of the great multinational banks of America, belonging to the private sector.

DoT rejects the major demand of the All Unions and Associations of BSNL.

At a time when thousands of BSNL employees are gearing up to participate in the March to Sanchar Bhawan, the DoT has written to the BSNL Management, conveying their stand on the various demands raised by the All Unions and Associations of BSNL. In this letter, the DoT has mentioned that, since BSNL is continuously running into loss, it’s employees are not eligible for wage revision. As regards pension revision, the DoT has stated that pension revision would be done only if wage revision is implemented. On the issue of Subsidiary Tower Company, the DoT has stated that the Tower Company has already started functioning. The reply of the DoT only shows it’s high handedness as well as anti-BSNL stand. Under these circumstances, we are left with no other option, but to intensify our struggles further.
