We have been telling that inequality is widening rapidly after the implementation of Neo-Liberal policies. A very big portion of the wealth that is being generated in the country, is being garnered by the big corporates. Statistics say that 1% of the Indian population is having 58% of the Nation’s wealth. Now, one more evidence has come to prove our claim that, the rich is growing richer. According to the Forbes 2017 Billionaires list, 101 Indian Billionaires are having wealth which is equivalent to 13% of India’s GDP. It must also be noted that simultaneously news are coming from many states reporting starvation deaths.

Com P.Abhimanyu, GS, com. Swapan Chakraborty, Dy.GS, com.S.Chelappa, AGS and com.Ramesh Chand,Organising Secretary(CHQ) met Ms. Anima Roy, GM(Estt & Rectt), BSNL CO today, and discussed the following issues:
(1) Wrong fixation of qualifying marks for SC/ST candidates in the forthcoming JE LICE under 50% quota to be held on 28.01.2018.
The union representatives pointed out to the GM (Estt & Rectt ) that in the model notification, it is mentioned that the qualifying marks for SC/ST candidates would be 20% in each section and 30% in aggregate. Whereas, according to the orders of the Corporate Office, the qualifying marks for SC/ST are prescribed as 20% in each section and there is no provision for aggregate marks. Therefore, the union urged that in the notification the minimum marks for SC/ST candidates should be fixed without any aggregate marks.
The GM informed that the qualifying marks for SC/ST candidates are not changed, and that, the order issued earlier is for review of the results of the failed SC/ST candidates. She further clarified that, while reviewing the results of the failed SC/ST candidates, no minimum aggregate marks would be required.
(2) Conducting off line examination for JE LICE.
The union has already written to the Management for conducting the LDCE/ LICE from Non-Executive to Non- Executive through off line. Since, the proposed JE LICE is from the Non-Executive to Non-Executive, it should be conducted off line only.
The GM replied that the JE is the highest Non- executive technical cadre and SOP also framed based on the technical support, therefore, the Management has decided to conduct the said LICE on line. The GM assured that necessary action would be taken to conduct mock tests to familiarise the candidates with the process of on line exams. The union representatives urged that necessary instructions should be issued from the Rectt. cell to the circles to conduct mock test every week before the exam, for which the GM agreed.
(3) On the issue of changing the cut off date from 1st July 2016 to 1st July 2017, for the JE LICE, the GM informed that since the exam is being held for 2016 vacancies, the cut off date could not be extended to 1st July, 2017.
However, she assured that the Union's demand for counting training period for qualifying service is accepted, and necessary instructions would be issued soon.
The family of Mukesh Ambhani, who is the richest person of India, has now become the richest in Asia. Mukesh Ambhani’s family has beaten the Lees of the Samsung, to become the richest in Asia. The net worth of the Ambhanis has increased from 19 billion US dollars to 44.8 billion US dollars. The net worth of the Lees is 40.8 billion US dollars. It must be noted that the policies of the Modi government has greatly helped Mukesh Ambhani to reach this position. We saw how the government’s policies helped Mukesh Ambhani’s Reliance Jio. Similarly, in the Oil industry also, which is one of the biggest business of Mukesh Ambhani, the government’s policy has greatly helped him. For example, the price of petrol in India was sold at Rs.65/- per litre in 2014, when the price of one barrel of crude oil was sold at 120 US dollars in the international market. But, when the price of crude oil in the international market has come down to only 50 US dollars per barrel, the price of petrol in India has increased to Rs.70/- per litre. Mukesh Ambani is greatly benefited by this. This is only one example of how the government, through it’s policy interventions, make the rich to become richer.
The Idea Cellular, one of the major telecom company, has already gone into loss. The Company’s loss for the second quarter has risen to Rs.1,107 crores. Releasing of the National Council minutes on time.
The Union representatives urged upon the GM (SR) to release the minutes of the adjourned 35th meeting of the National Council, held on 13.11.2017. The GM (SR) assured that the minutes would be released on time.
Issuing of notice for pre-mature retirement to 6 officials of Faridabad SSA.
BSNLEU has already written to the CMD BSNL and Director (HR), vide letter no. BSNLEU/310 (HAR) dated 02.11.2017, opposing the pre-mature retirement notice issued to 6 officials of Faridabad SSA, and has demanded withdrawal of the notices. The Union representatives enquired about the status of this case. The GM (SR) informed that the case is being amicably settled.
Preparation of a false minutes of the Designations Committee meeting.
BSNLEU has already protested that the Management Side had inserted in an unfair manner, certain portion, which is not part of the discussion that took place in the meeting of the Joint Committee for Change of Designations of the Non-Executives, held on 26.09.2017. The Union representatives requested the GM (SR) to intervene in this matter, for which he responded positively.
The meeting of All Unions and Associations of BSNL, held on 14-11-2017, has prepared a schedule for the tour programme of the All India leaders. We are aware that our circle unions may face some problems in organising the programme at such a short notice. Still this is very much required for the success of the strike. Hence, circle unions are requested to give utmost importance to organise the meetings, in coordination with other unions and associations.
