As the next Membership Verification approaches, certain forces like BTEU, have once again started spreading misinformation that BSNLEU has done nothing for the employees of BSNL. Such allegations are not new. During every verification process, attempts are made to undermine the contributions of BSNLEU. However, facts, achievements, and the lived experience of BSNL employees tell an entirely different story.
For more than a quarter of a century, BSNLEU has remained at the forefront of struggles to protect BSNL as a strong Public Sector Undertaking and to safeguard the interests of its employees. The union's history is marked by sacrifice, dedication, and consistent struggles that have directly benefited lakhs of employees and pensioners.
One of the most significant achievements of BSNLEU was its leading role in securing the 2007 Wage Revision with a 30% fitment benefit. The union also played a crucial role in achieving the 78.2% IDA merger, which provided substantial financial gains to employees and pensioners alike. Similarly, the implementation of the Non-Executive Promotion Policy (NEPP), which enhanced promotional opportunities from two promotions to four promotions along with additional increments, stands as a landmark achievement of sustained trade union efforts.
Even during one of the most challenging periods in BSNL's history, when the company was facing severe financial constraints, BSNLEU continued its relentless struggle for employees' rights. The signing of the Wage Revision Agreement for Non-Executives on 08.10.2025, despite BSNL being a loss-making PSU, is a historic achievement unmatched by many comparable public sector enterprises. BSNLEU has also consistently pursued issues such as restoration of IDA, improvement in promotional avenues, higher pay scales, and better service conditions.
BSNLEU's contribution extends far beyond wage and service matters. The union has consistently led nationwide struggles against privatisation and disinvestment, ensuring that BSNL continues as a 100% Government-owned telecom company serving the nation. It has stood shoulder to shoulder with all progressive unions and associations in defending public sector enterprises and opposing anti-worker labour policies.
A distinguishing feature of BSNLEU is its unwavering commitment to unity. Through its active role in the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB), the union has always believed that collective strength is the key to achieving employees' demands and protecting BSNL's future. Unity, struggle, and constructive engagement have been the guiding principles of BSNLEU.
On the other hand, BTEU, despite repeatedly claiming proximity to the Government and the ruling establishment, has nothing to show in terms of concrete achievements for BSNL employees. While projecting influence and access to power, it has failed to secure any major gains comparable to those won through the sustained struggles led by BSNLEU. During crucial moments when employees' rights, wage revision, promotions, and the very future of BSNL were at stake, BTEU's role remained largely ineffective and inconsequential.
Employees can judge organisations not by slogans, claims, or election-time propaganda, but by their record of struggle, sacrifice, and achievements. The history of BSNL clearly demonstrates who stood firmly with the employees during difficult times and who remained absent when decisive struggles were required.
Support BSNLEU—the union that fights for employees' rights, job security, wage justice, and the future of BSNL. Let us strengthen unity, advance our collective struggles, and build a stronger BSNL for the generations to come. A short note on the subject has already been sent to all CEC members with a request to circulate it widely among BSNL employees for creating better awareness on the issue.
